Your watchdog on the road
Carshepherd is an app on your phone that warns you about emergency services such as (unmarked) police, fire and ambulance in your area.
So you're informed early about a traffic situation.
Know sooner = act in time
Carshepherd warns you about an approaching or accompanying emergency vehicle often before you see or hear it. This keeps you aware of your surroundings so you can calmly make room in time for that emergency service.
A small receiver in the car or on the motorbike
A compact 10 cm SDR receiver with antenna passively listens for emergency-service radio traffic around you.
The dongle and antenna are easy to move to another car or motorbike if you have several vehicles.
Carshepherd watches your surroundings
The app turns the presence and proximity of that traffic into a clear picture on your phone screen. Is the police approaching, accompanying you, or at an incident ahead?
A calm warning, in time
You get a clear signal so you can make way. Clear and reliable.
Situational awareness
Know that there is emergency-service activity around you. Don't get caught off guard.
Like the Target Blu Eye, but with more features
Familiar with the Target Blu Eye? Carshepherd works on the same principle. It receives the C2000 — or TETRA — radio traffic around you and warns you about it. What Carshepherd does on top of the Blu Eye is give different warnings for an approaching emergency service or one that travels along with you on the motorway. This is the Co-mover.
Approach Key feature
Something is coming and getting closer → make room. The key signal for "move aside in time".
Accompanying emergency service
A unit travels near you for a while (e.g. an ambulance on the motorway) → keep it in mind and let it pass.
Approaching an incident
You are approaching a spot with emergency-service activity, such as a roadblock or accident ahead → pay attention and adjust your speed.
Speed camera & average-speed check warning
Known, fixed speed cameras and average-speed checks based on public map data (OpenStreetMap) — a separate, legal feature, apart from the rest.
Surroundings radar
A calm indication that there is activity nearby, even when nothing is close (yet).
Built on real journeys
The detection has been refined over more than a hundred real-world drives with confirmed observations.
Nearby facilities
The screen lights up silently when you come within 500 metres of a police station, hospital, fire station or military area. Per type, you can mute the alarm there if you want.
The solution that does fit on your motorbike
A Target Blu Eye is hard to fit properly on a motorbike. And let's be honest: nearly every rider already has their phone on a mount. All you need to do is tuck away the small dongle (10 cm) and the antenna — and you have exactly the same functionality as in a car.
- Your phone is already there — on the mount you see the colour column and beacon at a glance.
- The dongle (10 cm) tucks away easily under the seat or behind a fairing panel, with a cable to your phone.
- Mount the antenna vertically (e.g. behind a fairing or near the tail). Vertical matters for good reception.
What Carshepherd is and isn't
What it does
- Make you aware sooner of an approaching or accompanying emergency service.
- Help you make way in time and respond calmly.
- Show the presence and proximity of TETRA activity as an aid for road safety
What it isn't
- Not a radar detector and not a way to evade law enforcement.
- Does not read or decrypt communication and does not identify units.
- No guarantee: a silent (non-transmitting) radio is invisible. It does not replace attention or the traffic rules.
What you need
Carshepherd works with a small, affordable SDR receiver and antenna that you use in the car or on the motorbike. You connect it to your Android phone; the app does the rest.
Note when buying: get an RTL-SDR V3 or V4. We point you to reliable webshops for a suitable dongle and antenna.
